Cheese masterclass

The history of Britain in five cheeses.

2.00pm to 3.00pm

Cheese writer Patrick McGuigan will take you on a tasting through time and place as he charts the history of the British Isles through the medium of cheese.

From Stonehenge and the creation of the great monasteries to the rise of the railways and the impact of rationing, Patrick will reveal how Britain’s cheeses offer a window on our history and culture.

He’ll also explain why beer and cider are often better matches for British cheese than wine, with samples to prove it!

Patrick McGuigan is a cheese writer and teacher, who has travelled from the Swiss Alps to the pastures of Vermont to interview the world’s best cheesemakers, maturers and cheesemongers.

Meanwhile, something similar has happened in English and Welsh wine with a surge of new wineries and vineyards, crafting wines that are now rivalling imports from France, Italy and Spain in terms of range and quality.

Join cheese author Patrick McGuigan as he explores what makes them so good and how to match them.
